I can not for the life of me figure out why millennial hipsters were so fucking obsessed with triangles back in the day. Is it because of the Alt-J song? Was it used ironically as an illuminati reference? Who's to say, really. Maybe at the end of the day, what matters most is that the triangle trend existed and many a hipster (and hipster wannabes) partook in it, making it a small part of fashion internet history. Triangles are a cool shape, at least. I'll give them that.
I remember in the early 2010s, I was OBSESSED with the color mint. I dreamed of ligh-low skirts and button down business casual shirts in its pastel hue, and it seemed that the rest of the fashion industry was also deeply in love with mint. Everything from skinny jeans to prom dresses were mintified.
Of course, once the mint trend reached its peak saturation sometime in 2012-2013, the trend died out and became associated with other "cringey" fashion trends of its era, like owl necklaces and galaxy printed leggings. But it was not to stay dead for ever.
I first noticed mint making a resurgence on my tiktok when I saw makeup tutorials by @prikolllno and @xhgretyy on my FYP donning a bright mint green on their eyelashes and lips. A quick google search thereafter affirmed that I was seeing the nascence of the mint resurgence, and that the color had made a bold appearance at spring/summer 2025 fashion week. Vogue even wrote an article on the trend, dubbing it "toothpaste dressing."
The way I've been seeing mint used lately is a little more high fashion than the mint of the 2010s. When used as a mascara color for an editorial makeup look or as a pop of color in an all-black outfit, mint is quite...dare I say...chic?
Anyways, I'm excited to see where the trend goes, but I was also wanted to do some digging through the depths of tumblr to see how mint was used across various style tribes, from preppy fashion bloggers to the teens of pastel goth tumblr. It turns out that mint is quite a versatile color actually—it can work in a business casual fit as well as a seapunker's ensemble. What aesthetic do you think does mint the best?
Not to add to the scourge of "fashion enthusiasts who think that having a pinterest account makes them an expert on trend predictions" that currently plagues the internet, BUT, if I were to make a prediction as to how the next year is going to go, I would say to mark my words: the side part is returning.
Soon, we'll start getting tired of our middle parts, and in some fucked up combination of boredom, nostalgia, and irony, we'll begin styling our hair in a deep side part. And honestly? I can't wait to see it take over again. I remember being in middle school and feeling all fuzzy watching the girls in my class run their hands through their deep-parted, waterfall-like locks. (I, too, tried to rock a side part out of tweenage angst and insecurity, but soon realized that my hair is destined for the ratty Alexa Chung-style bangs and bob combination). I know gen-zers like to make fun of millennials for their side parts, but have we forgotten how good a side part can look?
