exploring blog archives: fadetoblackny august 2011-january 2012

Fadetoblackny was a fashion blog created by Gemma Rowlands, a Brit who found herself living in New York in the 2010s.  Gemma shared equal parts inspiration and fashion, documenting her favorite photographers and artists alongside her bohemian style, which got attention from the likes of Nylon, Stylecaster, and Coach.  Sadly, by 2012, her posts petered out for good, leaving only her archives behind.

Take a look at some of her posts below:

flickr finds: julia corsaro, 2004-2008

I know the term indie sleaze is incredibly overused and devoid of meaning at this point, but there's no better to way to describe Julia Corsaro's early flickr posts. Indie acts like Mystery Jets, Florence and the Machine, and S.C.U.M. regularly make appearances in her photographs, alongside snaps from house shows and grunge-y photoshoots with GIRLCORE, the now-defunct feminist art collective she co-founded. This was the heyday of flash photography, underground discos, and ironic fashion, and Julia captures the messiness of this era in its full glory. Take a look at a few of her photos below:

Florence and the Machine for SUP magazine

Blaine from Mystery Jets for NEO 2 magazine
