flickr finds: ekaterina pronina, 2008-2014

Finding Ekaterina’s flickr in my bookmarks felt like striking gold.  Her simple, often monochromatic photographs are everything I have been craving aesthetically recently, and they just feel so effortlessly cool.  She mostly captured excursions with friends and fashion shoot BTS snaps, and while she’s no longer active on the site, you can keep up with her designs on her instagram.  See some of my favorite photos of hers below:

Exploring blog archives: purpleasme.tumblr.com, 2011-2012

If the words “blackmilk,” “romwe,” or “galaxy print legging” give you a visceral reaction, please proceed carefully. Purpleasme.tumblr.com showcases many a 2010’s fashion crime, ranging from random crosses to skeleton bodysuits to, yes, the infamous black milk galaxy leggings.

It’s basically impossible to exaggerate the degree to which every tumblr-obsessed girl I knew wanted to dress like her.  Her OOTDs, simply put, epitomize 2011 tumblr style.

Scrolling through her blog archive, I can’t help but wonder if galaxy print is going to come back.  I mean, Dior did send it down the runway in 2022, but I feel like it’s so heavily associated with the early 2010’s that most gen-zers would be put off by it (unless worn ironically).  But perhaps gen alpha has fonder memories of seeing older kids sporting starry shirts and upside-down crosses and would be inclined to revive it.  I’ll be honest though, I do have a soft spot for the galaxy trend—it just feels sooo internet-y to me that I can’t help but be a fan.

flickr finds: Brothersoft Brothersoft, 2009-2010

Flickr has a reputation of being a website where photographers share their original work, BUT there are many photostreams out there full of uncredited images stolen from tumblr, weheartit, and other flickr users, as is the nature of the internet.  Usually I do my best to source and credit the images I share on here, but as I was scrolling through Brothersoft Brothersoft’s flickr profile, I knew I had to make an exception.  His photo stream is a wonderful little time capsule that replicates exactly what it was like to scroll through social media back in the day—the bokeh, artistic eye shots, inspiring quotes—it’s like being in middle school scrolling through one of those wallpaper websites with sketchy pop-up ads all over again.  Didn’t even realize how much I missed that until now:
