exploring blog archives: cheepfrills.blogspot.com april-may 2011

cheepfrills.blogspot.com was started by Caroline Freestone, a then-20-something who had freshly graduated uni with an english degree and a desire to document images she found beautiful and inspiring.  As she writes in her introductory blog post, her url comes from "an idea me and a couple of school friends had on livejournal when we were about 14, where we would list all the cheepfrills ('cheapthrills' was already taken) that made life worth living; i.e. the cold side of the pillow, finding money in an old purse, your alarm going off only to realise it's a Saturday.. etc, etc. So I decided to revive it, and since I love thrifting/charity shopping - literally cheap frills- it seemed appropriate."

Cheepfrills had an unfortunately short lifespan.  In August, four short months after she started her blog, Caroline announced a hiatus due to a new job that left little time for blogging (much less sleeping), and never took cheapfrills off the back burner.  I guess this underscores part of why the blog era fell apart—keeping up a blog is time-consuming, and for many bloggers, uploading images to the clunky blogspot interface began to feel like a chore, causing many of them to migrate to Instagram and Tumblr.  oh well.  Here are a few of her posts from her short-lived blog:

Sunday, 17 April 2011: Damn.

Can always get behind some Sky Ferreira appreciation.

Kate Middleton's wedding was an EVENT.  I remember they put up screens all around my middle school and gave us breaks in our classes so we could watch her get married.  And I don't even live in England lol.
