alwaysmonday, real name Ida, is a blogger based in Finland. Her blog had a pretty good run; she started back in 2008 and continued all the way through christmas 2017 when, without any warning or update, she stopped. Scrolling through her posts, she always seemed to have an awareness of her audience and her future—she wrote notes to her future self and regular updates before and after taking breaks. I can't help but wonder: did she know her december 2017 blog post was going to be her last? has she thought about updating it since? does she even remember her blog? Such is the fragility of the internet.
Ida regularly shared posts about the movies she watched, books she enjoyed, and photographers she admired. She was also upfront about her mental health, which was pretty refreshing for the time, and she regularly talk about not knowing what to do with her life. Her angst as she bounces from one odd job to the next is so relatable and makes me feel better about the fact that my own 20s are an absolute trainwreck.
I'd place alwaysmonday more in the "twee" category than indie sleaze (she was very inspired by LA-based 60s-inspired girl group The Like and indie films), though her earlier posts definitely have a grungier vibe. Take a look at some of them below:
